Visual Markdown

How Iliad renders Markdown while keeping the source editable.

Iliad MD edits normal Markdown files, but it renders many Markdown elements visually when your cursor is not inside them. The file on disk stays plain .md.

What It Does

  • Hides common syntax on inactive lines so the document is easier to read.
  • Shows raw Markdown on the active line so you can edit the source directly.
  • Renders headings, emphasis, inline code, links, images, YouTube embeds from image syntax, blockquotes, lists, pipe tables, task checkboxes, horizontal rules, and math.
  • Opens web links in your browser, Markdown workspace links in Iliad, and other local files with the system app when possible.

How To Use It

Write Markdown normally. Move the cursor away from a line to see its visual form. Move the cursor back into the line to edit the raw source.

For images, drag or paste an image into an open Markdown document. Iliad saves the image beside the document under an assets/<document-name>/ folder and inserts a Markdown image reference.

What To Expect

Visual Markdown is an editing aid, not a separate preview mode. If a table, link, or math block is incomplete or ambiguous, Iliad leaves the source visible instead of guessing.

Limits

  • The Markdown source is the source of truth.
  • Iliad does not silently rewrite your Markdown on save.
  • Fenced code blocks stay literal.
  • Some visual extensions, such as YouTube rendering from image syntax, may appear differently in other Markdown apps.
